A recent experiment, this piece celebrates the divergent qualities of two different materials. Canvas, a natural fibre, expands and contracts in response to changing temperature and humidity. Duralar, a polyester film, stays constant. By stitching the pieces of painted duralar to the canvas support along the top edges only, the two materials happily coexist together, yet remain independent. The final image above shows the underpainting that lives under the fluttery duralar pieces.
